A former Dallas police officer was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in prison for killing an unarmed man in his apartment, which she said she mistook for her own unit one floor below. As people outside of the courtroom reacted angrily to the 10-year sentence given to Amber Guyger for killing Botham Jean in his apartment, believing it was too lenient, his brother was allowed to address her directly from the witness stand. Brandt Jean told Guyger that he thinks his brother would have wanted her to turn her life over to Christ, and that if she can ask God for forgiveness, she will get it. "I love you as a person. I don't wish anything bad on you," he said to the 31-year-old Guyger, before adding, "I don't know if this is possible, but can I give her a hug?" The judge said he could, and Brandt and Guyger stood up, met in front of the bench and embraced while Guyger cried. Judge Tammy Kemp also hugged Guyger before she was led from the courtroom. How can something that seems so simple be so HARD? Yep, we’re talking about forgiveness with Fr. Ken Geraci, CPM, an EXPERT on the subject. This guy, in opposition to political protesters at a conference we attended together, led people in prayer! But he is the first to say that forgiveness is a virtue to be practiced and cultivated over time. But sometimes, you don’t want to forgive. Or, you only want to forgive about 95%, and you need to go a little further to forgive that last 5%. This is where the “dirty work” of forgiveness begins and where the Lord is ready to meet us with his healing grace. Today, we talk about all of that, plus how to forgive when someone really did something terrible to you, how to forgive things that maybe even happened before you were born, and more.
